Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief -- How We Can Help

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We have been challenged by the loss of electricity, lack of basic public services, and the long gas lines. Hopefully, these challenges are now behind us as life gets back to normal in our community.

Unfortunately, as we all well know, there are several communities in desperate need of our help in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Our mission is to help those in need as efficiently as possible.

As such, we are combining the efforts amongst the various organizations into a single cohesive "Saint John the Theologian Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Effort."

Under the leadership of The Metropolis of New Jersey, the first stage is in place between our Philoptochos, local AHEPA chapter, Parish Outreach Committee, Youth organization and Scout Troops. Philoptochos and AHEPA are both linked into our state's and nation's first responder support system. Both organizations have already been heavily involved in the relief effort. Through their national offices, our local representatives are informed and updated as to disaster relief needs which is provided to them via the American Red Cross and FEMA.

The second stage is to bring our various other organizations under the same umbrella. The Family Circle and Parish Outreach Committee will be spearheading this effort.

We will also do our best to communicate updates through our Parish communication resources -- website (www.gonj.org), Facebook Page , e-mail list, phone message system, church bulletins, etc.

Over the coming days and weeks we will inform you as to volunteer and donation opportunities.

At the center of the life of the Church is the Holy Eucharist, which is the principal celebration of our faith and the means through which we participate in the very life of the Holy Trinity.
